If that’s the case, then the PS5 Fat will be my last console. There’s no way I’m buying a console whose whole or partial functionality depends on an internet connection :[

If you have been following gaming for a long time, this type of move is kind of obvious, more people are sadly buying digital than disc games, Sony has been thinking about going digital only since the PS3 days,
The sad reality and most gamers won't understand, is that digital only is bad, disc based games are usually cheaper than digital games, we will also lose out on pre-Owned gaming/second hand gaming, also no more borrowing a game from a friend,
So gaming as a whole will be more expensive

They'll produce a carefully determined number of disk drives to ensure only a subset of interested customers will be able to buy them, instantly creating false scarcity and sky-high scalper pricing. It's all in attempt to force us into an all-digital future where we own nothing, keep buying the same games over and over, and are happy about it! Why did we get stuck in the worst timeline?

Don't worry it'll be just like this generation... So I don't think they'll do things differently besides maybe try to make Cloud gaming more relevant which it won't be lol. Anyway I'm not worried since there will be both a PS6 standard and a PS6 digital so you can just get the PS6 with the Blu-Ray disc drive (y)

The difference is that an ‘add-on’ disc is not a native disc. Those who went all in for a 30th Anniversary collector’s edition can’t be sure they’ll be able to use it later, if they ever decide to open it (...). Without a connection, it’s guaranteed they won’t :[

Yeah it's not part of the console like in the past and an Internet connection is required... But it's still a better than nothing thing. But I get why it's not done right and might annoy/frustrate a lot of people who prefer to own a physical copy of every game they buy.
