It's amazing what literally 2 minutes of actual research can do. The team responsible for the upkeep and development of Dynamic Server Meshing is still very much intact at CIG. Server meshing launched in 2024 (and was in testing since Q1 2024 on live servers). The few people that left moved on to other endeavors (which is completely normal for game devs working on highly specialized technology).

I feel sorry for anyone who backed this game 13 years ago and is still waiting for it to be finished.
Why? We didn't expect quite literally the most ambitious game ever proposed would happen overnight. CIG had 5 employees in 2012. Due to our demand for more (stretch goals and continued funding), they have grown to around 1,000 now, built a AAA game studio, and have two games nearing launch. Just in the past 5 months, Star Citizen has seen an absolutely flood of content and polish hit live servers after server meshing went live. Every year we see tools, graphics, server tech and gameplay improve significantly. Yes, some years were a little stale due to various reasons and yes the project could have been managed better, but that's part of game development at this scale too. Switching game engines when one doesn't meet your needs, buying other studios, building your own, facing set backs on groundbreaking technology and trial and error are all completely normal. No one ever thought CIG would crowdfund and pledge their way to $800 million, but here we are, all still contributing to development, pushing ahead.

Disingenuous reporting. Server meshing has proven itself to be a successful, extremely valuable technology that solves a lot of the problems people have with typical MMO gameplay/networking conventions and now those ppl are moving onto other projects.

Don't know why this is the one industry where people expect staff to remain at one company forever otherwise it's doomed. It's not the 1950s anymore. People move around jobs.
In addition to Server Meshing staff, CIG has been hit with wave after wave of layoffs to staff from every level.
Meaning people who refused to relocate to their Manchester office, redundancies due to CIG acquiring Turbulent and some administrative roles in Los Angeles that weren't needed because they moved everyone else to their 1000 dev Manchester 'megastudio'.
and why Star Citizen continues to be in development hell.
Monthly releases isn't development hell. If Warframe can stay in beta for 15 years why tf can't Star Citizen? They're making increasingly more money and there's no sign of slowdown. Rushing something and holding it to the standards of AAA development is incredibly dumb. A cool auteur game designer has unlimited money to make something ridiculous. Once in a lifetime scenario but grifters will piss and shit their pants over it not being done in 3 years like everything else (slop).
